Three cheers to the Island Park Community! The 1st Annual River Clean Up had over 70 registered volunteers who walked, waded and floated the Henry's Fork in search of litter and debris. Many large items were recovered during the day including tires, barrels, car parts and a variety of "interesting" items, making the judging for the Recycling Pioneer Award a difficult task. Anne Heaphy ended up taking home the trophy with a truck ramp that she pulled from the water near the Osborne Bridge.
A great big thanks to all who volunteered their time and effort including the staff from Harriman State Park, the staff from the Henry's Fork Foundation, TroutHunter, the Henry's Fork Master Naturalists, Randy Gravatt from Fremont Search & Rescue, & the many fishing guides who navigated the day. A special thank you is in order for Kevin Michaelson of H B Excavation & Construction who volunteered his dump truck and time to take all of the debris recovered to Island Park Landfill. Kudos to Kyle Babbitt, Bren Dismuke and their team who painstakingly sorted through each clean up bag to remove the recycleables.
